Hands-free (lock) mode

Lock mode lets you record without holding a key down. Useful when push-to-talk gets uncomfortable — long emails, drafts, anything multi-paragraph.

How it works

1. Press Shift + Fn to start. Release the keys.
2. Speak as long as you want.
3. Press Shift + Fn again to stop.

The HUD shows a lock icon while lock mode is active.

When to use it

• Long emails or documents.
• Brainstorming aloud.
• When your hands are busy.
• When your speech has natural pauses.

Cancel

Press ESC any time. Same as push-to-talk.

10-minute limit

Same as push-to-talk — Whiskers auto-stops and transcribes at 10 minutes. For longer recordings, save the audio and use File Transcription.

Remapping

If Shift + Fn collides with something else, remap it in Settings → Hotkeys.
