The recording HUD
A small floating HUD appears while you hold the hotkey:
| State | What you see | What's happening |
|---|---|---|
| Waiting | Pulsing dots | Listening, no audio yet |
| Recording | Waveform + timer | Capturing your voice |
| Processing | Pulsing dots | Transcribing |
| No audio | Orange warning | Mic isn't picking anything up |
If you release within 300ms, nothing happens — that's by design to prevent accidental taps. Recordings auto-stop at 10 minutes.
Cancel
Press ESC at any time during recording or processing. Audio is discarded; nothing is pasted.
Hands-free mode
For long recordings, don't hold the key — toggle lock mode instead:
- Press
Shift + Fnto start (release the keys). - Speak.
- Press
Shift + Fnto stop.
A lock icon appears in the HUD while lock mode is active.
